About Us
Who Are We
The Free Investments group is made up of 6 members including the manager. The members are students from the University of Nottingham who, together, share a passion for the financial markets and in particular equities. The group is a subsidiary of the Nottingham Economics and Finance Society Equity Fund, which is a student-run long only fund covering different sectors.
Within Free Investments, the portfolio is heavily invested in medium to high risk shares and focuses on long to medium term investments. The group mainly focuses on medium-term capital growth within a half-year horizon. A small proportion of funds will be allocated towards capitalising on short-term volatility returns with limiting factors. Our investment approach is simple: we analyse companies from a fundamental bottom-up prospective, whilst not forgetting the overall macro picture. We also seek for diversification by industry and geography in order to allow for appropriate risk-adjusted returns. Our mixture of bottom-up and top-down approach is what allows us to make opportunistic investments in companies with compelling performance or in sectors that seem poised to out-perform, positioning us very well to take advantage of both perspectives.
We aim to out-perform the benchmark FTSE All-Share index over the course of our investment horizon. We feel that this is an appropriate measure given that the majority of our portfolio will be invested in FTSE companies.
